Health and Safety

The safety of everyone involved in operations is a core value for JCDecaux. Accidents and injuries are preventable, and therefore JCDecaux has created a culture where safety is an integral part of every business decision across the Group.

JCDecaux UK has achieved OHSAS 18001 certification across the entire roadside, retail, rail and airport operations’ portfolio.

JCDecaux’s contractors consistently tell us that JCDecaux’s expectations exceed those of other media owners, and we believe we are leading the Out-of-Home industry on health and safety.

JCDecaux ensures employees and contractors know how to identify and manage risks, and take personal responsibility for their own safety and the safety of those around them. JCDecaux is committed to preventing injury and ill health by providing the safest working conditions possible to ensure the health and safety of its employees, and others who may be affected by its activities.

JCDecaux’s road risk programme includes driver training for the most at-risk employees and JCDecaux continues to improve safety by addressing driving behaviour among employees, contractors and the wider community.

The danger of falling when working at height is a particular risk for employees and contractors working on high and low level advertising structures or furniture. JCDecaux’s priority is to ensure that anyone operating at height is trained on the risks involved, follows agreed procedures, demonstrates appropriate behaviours at all times, and always employs the necessary safety equipment.

JCDecaux also works with contractors to make sure they have a documented risk management process for working with electricity, that those working on electrical equipment are authorised, competent and medically fit, that electrical equipment is fit for its intended purpose, and that appropriate safety devices are in place before work starts.

JCDecaux requires all its contractors to meet strict health and safety requirements, and monitors their performance through a contractor management programme. All contractor companies must be a member of the Safecontractor scheme. In addition, JCDecaux only allows contractors on sites if they have an industry Safety Passport or a CSCS card that shows they have completed appropriate health and safety training.

In recognition of its safety performance and improvements every year for the past 10 years, JCDecaux is extremely proud to have been awarded the prestigious Presidents Award at the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards in 2014.
